Just saw the Ring 2 movie and it was a complete disappointment. The first one was brilliant, because of the mystery being researched and revealed bit by bit in the best traditions of adventure games, and very creepy atmosphere, reinforced by the symbols from the mysterious videoclip appearing IRL, like the landmarks leading closer to the source.

Was so looking forward to see the sequel, and it appeared to be a mediocre Hollywood kid-horror flick, with no sense of mystery/adventure whatsoever, very predictable and even non-scary. The included clips and images from the Ring 1 feel like a plagiarism. A total waste of time.

Funny that both Ring novels are pretty decent (although the 1st movie IMHO is a lot better than the novel, all the visual symbolism just can't be expressed in the same way in text). But the 2nd Ring movie is not based on the novel.

Do you mean the novel by Koji Suzuki? I've read it and it's fantastic. Haven't read the novel's sequel though. I prefered the movie Ringu to the American remake, but I actually thought Ring 2 was better than the Japanese movie sequel, which seemed to be obsessed with using technology to measure ghosts and was a bit of a let down.

Yes, this novel (of course I've read it in translation because I don't know Japanese). I know there exist different versions of the movies, and would be very curious to see the Japanese ones.

Just found out that there are more Ring books ! "Loop" (the 3rd one) and "Birthday" which contains the story for Ring prequel.

I read the translation too (my Japanese is only slightly worse than my ability to read and write mediaeval Latin, ie. no ability whatsoever). I highly recommend the Japanese version of the first movie.

I didn't know there were more sequels to the novel. I'm going to have to track them down now!
